I knew that this puzzle image would be difficult but it’s beyond that. The piece shapes are not distinct enough, and I often hold pieces up to the light to determine whether they really connect. I have been annoyed for two weeks, spending way too much time puzzling just to get a piece or two placed, but I can’t bring myself to toss it all back in the box. I suppose I’m getting my money’s worth… I have assembled several Blue Kazoo puzzles previously, and I still have more to do. This puzzle makes me realize that I have been purchasing this brand for the solid quality and irresistible images, but what has been missing every time is enjoyment. This brand might be great for folks who want an occasional, time-consuming challenge, but as someone who puzzles regularly, it’s frustrating to work on a puzzle that brings me to a screeching halt. I want my life back!

Took me three months (!!) to finish this, between work, classes and reassembling because of cats. Worth it, it is a beauty.

I knew what I was getting into with this exercise in masochism, but enjoyed it all the same. My copy is from the Classic series, which has a glossy surface that isn't ideal for a dark puzzle like this (I'd give 4.5 stars if I could, for that reason). Like probably everyone else, I started from the brighter center area and worked my way out to the margins. I didn't refer to the box image, nor did I arrange the pieces in rows and start scanning piece by piece. This probably cost me some time, but I'm a puzzler, not a bricklayer! To me, arranging by shape and brute-forcing the process is less an "expert tip" than a novice's fallback. In total, it took me just under 17 hours of star-gazing to get it done, and I have included photos at the 6-hour and 14-hour mark. When I went to research the original image, I found that it's from our own Milky Way, around 50,000 light years away, and includes infrared photography which accounts for some of the red stars. If only the puzzle could have been square, like the original image, it would have been perfect.

Oh my goodness. This was the the most challenging puzzle I’ve ever done. I would recommend starting with one of the other ones from the galaxy series. This was truly an exercise in patience and discipline. Love it.
