Date Night: BYOP (Bring Your Own Puzzle)

We’re likely not the first but we’ll say it anyway; going out is expensive. 

As the overall cost of living increases and the price of food and drinks go up, spending a night out, let alone multiple nights out during the week, begins to rack up the bill and create a hefty dent in your wallet. 

In 2019, the average cost of a date in America would set one back about $116. And it’s only going up as the years go on and inflation continues to rise.  

Depending on where you live, the cost of dating can be even more expensive than the figure listed above. In San Francisco, CA, the average cost to date in 2019 was $143, in New York, NY, $142, and in Washington, DC, $135. Some weren’t quite as costly, with Kansas City, MO, and Omaha, NE dates priced at $91 and $83, respectively. If you have children, the cost of a night out only goes up. 

Don’t expect to spend less than $70 on a fancy night out, though. According to data for dating in 2021, the most affordable city’s average date night was in Des Moines, IA running at $72, with New York being the most expensive at $150. 

Some may say there isn’t a price of love (cue JLo’s, Love Don’t Cost a Thing), but not everyone has the means - or the desire - to spend over $600 on a fancy dinner and movie, and other dating costs throughout the month. 

So, we offer another alternative. Why go out to an expensive dinner when you can BYOB and BYOP (bring your own beverage and puzzle) to the coffee table? The cost of a night in with a bottle of wine and a Blue Kazoo puzzle will rival even the most affordable date night out in America.
